Work Experience

Employment Directions offers many different options for undertaking work experience activities.  These activities will be negotiated with you to ensure that they support your career goals and meet your individual needs.

Work Experience activities include the following:

  • Work for the Dole - Work Experience placements in not-for-profit organisations which benefit local communities
  • Green Corps - Work Experience placements in activities which benefit Australia's natural environment or cultural heritage
  • Part time study
  • Part time/casual work
  • Work Experience placements - short-term unpaid placements with employers enabling jobseekers to gain vocational skills and increase their likelihood of gaining sustainable employment
  • Volunteer work in the community - Placement undertaken in an approved not-for-profit community organisation in Verified Voluntary Work positions
  • Paid or unpaid work in social enterprises - Work for the Dole, Green Corps, unpaid Work Experience or Volunteer placements which occur in social enterprises which target disadvantaged jobseekers where the host employer meets certain criteria
  • Drought force activities - Activities undertaken on farms and in farming communities severely affected by drought
  • Defence Force Reserves
  • Placement in government labour market/training or skills development programs, eg Language, Literacy and Numeracy Program, CDEP
  • Participation in non-vocational programs
